What is cardiac vascular nursing certification?

CVRN certification is a specialized credential that validates the knowledge and skills of nurses in providing high-quality care to patients with cardiovascular conditions. This certification equips nurses with advanced expertise in managing cardiac and vascular disorders, such as heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, and postoperative care.

CVRN certification is offered by professional nursing organizations, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

By obtaining this certification, nurses demonstrate their commitment to excellence in cardiovascular care and showcase their advanced knowledge in this specialized field.

CVRN Certification Requirements

To be eligible for the CVRN certification, candidates typically need to hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license and have a certain level of clinical experience in cardiac vascular nursing

In addition to the experience requirement, candidates may need to complete a certain number of continuing education hours in cardiovascular nursing or complete a cardiac vascular nursing residency program. These educational components help nurses acquire the specialized knowledge and skills necessary for certification.

The CVRN Exam

The CVRN exam is open to all registered nurses and nurse practitioners from around the world. You’ll need to provide your nursing license number and the state where you got your license on your application.

It’s preferred to have at least one year of experience in a non-acute care setting like PCU, telemetry, PICU, or interventional cardiology before you take this exam.

You don’t need continuing education credits to sit for the exam, but you’ll need 30 CEs in cardiology for recertification every three years.

For the CVRN Level I Board Certification Examination, examiners suggest focusing on these areas:

  • Bedside assessment of cardiovascular patients.
  • Basic to intermediate electrocardiography, including recording, reading, and interpreting.
  • Coronary artery disease, covering STEMI, NSTEMI, and unstable angina.
  • Hypertension.
  • Cardiomyopathy.
  • Heart failure.
  • Non-invasive and invasive cardiology procedures.

How hard is the CVRN exam?

The CVRN exam assesses the proficiency of nurses in various aspects of cardiac vascular nursing, including clinical judgment, patient assessment, and evidence-based practice.

The difficulty level of the CVRN exam can vary depending on factors such as individual preparation, experience, and familiarity with the content. However, it’s important to note that the CVRN exam is designed to evaluate advanced knowledge and expertise in cardiac vascular nursing.

The exam typically consists of multiple-choice questions that assess critical thinking skills and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. It covers a wide range of topics, including cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, diagnostic tests, pharmacology, treatment modalities, and patient education.

Before starting nursing school, I was a C-average student. I didn't think I'd be competent enough and make it through my second semester. I was told about SimpleNursing and purchased it immediately. Long story short, I graduated nursing school with honors and passed all of my classes with As and Bs only. I would have never been able to do that without the help of SimpleNursing. Nurse Mike teaches in the only way that I am able to learn and I cannot thank him enough.
